Ex-El Camino Basketball Coach Arrested For Sex Crimes

Sheriff's Office says Melvin Flemings charged with sexual assault of a juvenile male, possession of child pornography.

A former El Camino High School freshman boys basketball coach was arrested Thursday on numerous counts of child
pornography, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office announced.

Melvin Flemings, 22, was arrested during a court appearance for a pending case of the same nature. Flemings was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is being held on $500,000 bail.

On Feb. 4, Flemings was arrested for charges related to the sexual assault of a juvenile male whom Flemings coached, officials said. He has also coached basketball teams for the Amateur Athletic Union league in the Sacramento area.

Since Flemings’ arrest in February, Sheriff’s sexual assault detectives have continued to conduct an additional investigation and have found at least six more juvenile male victims, officials said. Investigators discovered evidence of child pornography and sexual contact between Flemings and the victims.

Detectives believe there may be additional male juveniles who have been victimized by Flemings. Anyone having information about other possible crimes of this nature involving Flemings is asked to contact Det. Anthony Brantley of the Sheriff’s Department’s Sexual Assault Bureau at (916) 874-5070.

"This is a criminal matter being handled by the sheriff's department. As we did during the initial investigations, we will assist in any way possible," said Trent Allen, a spokesman for the San Juan Unified School District.

"The safety of our students is a top priority," Allen said. "We would encourage anyone with information about this case to call the sheriff's department, or talk to a trusted adult."
