Fair Oaks Robbery and Attempt in Carmichael Occurred Within Minutes

Estate Lady's Shoppe and Rite Aid suspects, vehicle descriptions are similar in nature, sheriff's office spokesman says.

Authorities believe the men who robbed the in Fair Oaks Friday evening may have been involved in an attempted robbery at a Carmichael only minutes later.

Between 5:05 and 5:10 p.m. Friday, two men came into the antique shop at 10149 Fair Oaks Boulevard and took off with a ring after an employee took it out of a display case, Sacramento Sheriff's Office Deputy and Spokesman Jason Ramos said. The ring is valued at more than $400, which makes the crime felony grand theft, he said.

The main suspect – who grabbed the ring – was described as a black man in his mid-20s, about 5'5” and 125 pounds, wearing a black leather jacket and dark jeans. The second suspect was described as a white man in his mid-20s; the two apparently took off in a white, two-door Honda with a spoiler, Ramos said. Both were unarmed.

The sheriff's office investigating unit went to the business to collect fingerprints from the front door and display case, Ramos said. It's unclear whether the business has surveillance video.

Less than 30 minutes later and not even four miles away, the Rite Aid at 4010 Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael was hit by an attempted robbery, Ramos said.

At about 5:30 p.m., the sheriff's office was told by the store's loss prevention agent that a man tried to steal merchandise from Rite Aid. The agent chased the suspect outside, who started swinging at her and pushed her to the ground, dropping the merchandise, Ramos said. He apparently dropped the merchandise during the scuffle.

The suspect – described as a black man in his 20s, 5'8” and 175 pounds – jumped into a vehicle described as a white, four-door Nissan Altima with a spoiler on the back. It also appears he had a driver, Ramos said. The loss prevention agent wasn't injured in the incident, he said.

The timing and relatively similar suspect and vehicle descriptions may tie the cases together, Ramos said, but nothing is definitive. “They might be related, there's some similarities,” he said.

While the sheriff's office hasn't released any surveillance images of the suspects, Ramos said more incidents similar in nature to the Estate Lady's Shoppe robbery and attempted robbery at Rite Aid occur, it will. That said, any image released to the public will have to be of good quality, he said.

“We'll do it if it will help in the investigation,” he said. “If we have video and you can't see face or identifying characteristics of the individual, we won't do it, it's a moot video.”
