Feb. 3-8: Fair Oaks Man Solves Own Case

Neighbor admits being behind home burglary.

This time it’s personal

A Fair Oaks man cracked his own burglary case earlier this month, wringing a written confession out of the neighbor that allegedly ransacked his home.

The 38-year-old resident of a house in the 8000 block of Walnut Hills Way reported the crime taking place the night of Feb. 3, a Thursday. According to a report from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, the victim came to suspect that one of his neighbors, 34-year-old Jason Rasher, was responsible for the crime and confronted him a few days later.

Rasher reportedly came clean during that confrontation, admitting he was the one who broke into the home, damaging the garage door in the process, and absconding with several items belonging to the victim. Rasher returned some of the victim’s property and signed a letter prepared by the victim that outlined Rasher’s guilt and pledged him to pay the victim for his losses.

Rasher went one final step further, turning himself in at the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was taken into custody and booked for the residential burglary.

Rasher, who was arraigned on one felony count of burglary in Sacramento Superior Court last week, has his next court appearance scheduled for March 3.

That must be a big dog

An Orangevale woman identified a teenage boy as the culprit behind a recent residential burglary.

The 39-year-old victim was elsewhere earlier this month when she says the 15-year-old squeezed through the doggie door of her locked Hazel Avenue residence and removed personal property. The suspect fled before the victim returned, according to the sheriff’s report.

Authorities have the name of the teenager the victim believes is responsible for the Feb. 8 break-in, but no arrests have yet been made. The suspect was listed as 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, which would make his entrance through the doggie door both illegal and impressive.
