Local Firefighters to 'Fill the Boot' to Fight MDA

The following is a press release from the city of Roseville: 

On November 1st and 2nd 2013, off-duty firefighters from the Roseville, Rocklin, Placer County, and South Placer Fire Departments along with Sierra College Fire Academy Cadets, will be shaking their turnout boots and collecting donations to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. 

Fill the boot proceeds benefit local families affected by muscle disease. MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.

"The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a great organization. Families affected by muscle disease need all the help they can get. Our firefighters enjoy giving their time to support an organization that has such a great local impact," said Roseville Fire Captain Jamie Pepin who serves as the event coordinator. The International Association of Firefighters is the single largest contributor to the MDA, raising over 500 million dollars since 1954.

Fire departments across California are granted authority through Senate Bill 582 which gives public safety personnel the legal right to enter the roadway for the purpose of collecting funds for charity. 

Firefighters will be at the intersections of Pleasant Grove Blvd. and Fairway Dr. as well as Sierra College Blvd. and Douglas Blvd. on Friday November 1st from 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. and Saturday November 2nd from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. For more information visit us on Facebook by clicking here
