Leading up to July 4th, Sears Heroes at Home and Rebuilding Together Sacramento volunteers are supporting local U.S. Navy veteran Kenneth Aguirre. A resident of the Sacramento community for nearly 50 years, Kenny and his wife Emma will have more to celebrate this Independence Day – a newly renovated home. Aguirre served from 1944 - 1946 on the USS Whitley naval ship. During World War II, he was a first class fireman and later served as a third class motor machinist. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and began work as a farmhand and handyman. Aguirre’s home was in need of many repairs, especially in the bathroom. His wife, Emma, suffered a stroke and has since been confined to a wheelchair making everyday activities a challenge. Renovations included remodeling the bathroom to make it handicap accessible, complete with a new shower, wider doorways and more.
In its sixth year, the Sears Heroes at Home program has raised nearly $17 million. This renovation is just one of the hundreds of projects made possible through generous donations by shoppers both in-store and online at Sears. Now through July 27, Sears is encouraging consumers to give back to the men and women who serve our country by donating funds to Heroes at Home at their local Sears store or online at sears.com/heroesathome.
