
A man was fatally shot early Friday morning inside his Manzanita Avenue apartment, Sacramento County Sheriff's officials reported.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 5700 block of Manzanita Avenue. Upon their arrival, deputies were directed to an apartment where they discovered a male adult in his 50’s.
The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Deputies contacted a man who informed them that he had been at the apartment when the shooting took place. This witness stated that after knocking on the door of the apartment, two males forced their way inside.

The witness was knocked to the ground and detained by one suspect, while the other suspect confronted the victim in another room of the house. The witness heard a gunshot and then the two suspects fled from the apartment.
The witness gave chase, but was unable to catch them. Upon returning
to the apartment, the witness discovered that the victim had been shot.
The suspects were described as two black males, one of whom was wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt. No further identifying information regarding the suspects was immediately available.

They were believed to have possibly fled from the complex in a dark, smaller sedan-type of vehicle, which was seen driving quickly out of the apartment complex just after the shooting.
