Two burglary attempts within three miles of each other ended with different results this month.
Around midnight March 12, a 53-year-old Fair Oaks woman called authorities after someone entered her backyard and kicked in the side entrance to the garage of her Saddle Ridge Way home. The unidentified suspect(s) took aluminum cans from the victim’s side yard before fleeing, said a sheriff’s report.
Two weeks later and three miles away on Santa Juanita Avenue in Orangevale, a husband and wife interrupted a burglar who broke into their home after no one answered a knock at the front door.

A few seconds after the front-door knock, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department report says the home’s 42-year-old female occupant heard a noise at the back of the house around 10 a.m. Monday. She went to her laundry room and saw a male suspect later identified as Vincent Vizgaudis, 25, of Sacramento trying to gain entry through a door that leads from the laundry room outside. The female occupant then called her husband, which possibly spooked Vizgaudis, because the husband later found him walking down the road and detained him.
Vizgaudis was taken into custody for burglary and transported to the Main Jail in Sacramento. According to the sheriff’s report, the wife didn’t find anything missing from her residence.
