Officials: 4th of July Calmer Than Last Year

Not as many calls for service Monday night as the year before.

Although sheriff's department deputies and firefighters were certainly busy breaking up parties and collecting illegal fireworks Monday, this year’s Fourth of July proved to be calmer than last year, authorities said.

Almost 800 calls for service were made to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, but that's about 100 fewer than last year, said department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos.

According to Scott Cockrum, Assistant Fire Chief with the , the amount of illegal fireworks collected this year, about 300 pounds, was also less than last year.
