Passerby Saves Elderly Woman from Burning Home on Gibbons Drive
Good Samaritan led woman to safety Monday afternoon.

A man passing by a house fire in Carmichael on Monday rescued an elderly woman inside, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reported.
At about 4:30pm, Sacramento Metro firefighters responded to the report of a house fire with multiple calls. The home was on the 5800 block of Gibbons Drive, News 10 reported.
Fire crews arrived and found the home with extensive fire and smoke from showing from the rear of the house. Firefighters also found the home’s attic fully involved with fire. Fire crews aggressively attacked the fire and had containment 20 minutes after arrival, said Sacramento Metro Asst. Fire Chief Scott Cockrum.

Firefighters located the homeowner, an elderly woman. She told firefighters she was lost in the smoke inside the home and a man came in and located her, then assisted her out, Cockrum said.
The man said he was passing by and stopped to help. He entered the burning home and located the woman.

The woman was evaluated by firefighters. She had no complaint of injury, Cockrum said.
Firefighters said it appears the fire started in a small apartment unit built off the rear of the home, then extended into the attic area of the primary residence.
The cause is under investigation.
Damage is estimated to be $60,000. Cockrum said. The fire was controlled with a single alarm of 24 firefighters and no reported injuries.
