Annual Darwin Day Birthday Gala

For the 18th epic year, Sacramento science advocates join hands with civic groups to bring the coolest go-to event ever of science and human reason, the fabulous Sacramento Darwin Day Birthday Gala. This one marks C. Darwin’s 206th birthday.

It all will happen in the spacious John Smith Hall of the La Sierra Community Center, in Carmichael.

What’s Darwin Day? A science-rush like no other, an annual celebration of scientific inquiry honoring of the life and work of the great Charles Darwin (b. 12 February 1809), sponsored worldwide by community and educational groups. To learn more of this mind-growing event, please visit the International Darwin Day Foundation.

Doors will open at 2:00 pm, the main program begins 2:30. Arrive early, tour the display tables, visit the vendors, grab some science swag, then find a comfy seat. Relax and enjoy the opening entertainment, live music by Scientific Jam. Then this year’s main speaker: Mario Livio, Ph.D., astrophysicist and author, well-loved lecturer, and all-round clever fellow. His topic? “Charles Darwin: Curiosity, Blunders, and Brilliance“. Rounding it up will be more entertainment, snacks, and of course, yummy birthday cake. (It is a birthday, after all.)
