Skewers American Grill Now Open

There’s a new place to eat in the afternoon in Carmichael. Skewers American Grill opened its doors at the beginning of July, serving its customers lunch in the afternoon while serves customers in the evening.

Skewers specializes in serving their dishes as skewers. Its specialty skewers are the Saffron Chicken, Grilled Skirt Steak and Coconut Shrimp skewers. If you can’t choose one, you can get one of each with the Skewer Trio.

The restaurant takes pride in just its food, but manager Amir Ekunwe says its laid-back atmosphere has it apart from the rest of its competition.

“When a person comes and sits down, we want them to feel like they’re on a mini-vacation," Ekunwe said. "Basically, we’re just taking care of them.”

Ekunwe said he hasn’t heard one complaint from any of his customers during the first month of business. Even though he has to compete with McDonald’s on the other side of the street, he says that Skewers fine dining food without the price.

“A lot of the local Carmichael residents have been coming in and loving the food,” he said. “Honestly, there (are) no other places around in this area (where) you can get a good quality meal.”

Chef Joseph Thygsen who shared the dream of opening Skewers, also said that he feels that customers should be able enjoy a good meal without overpaying.

“We feel everybody should be able to get a hold of fresh food at a pretty reasonable price,” he said.

With the first month done, new restaurants always have room for improvement and like any ne restaurant, the goal is to grab more customers.

“I just want to get more people here for lunch,” Ekunwe said. “Let them try our food, let them see what we’re all about. Within this week, I want to get dinner rolling.”
