Fire Destroys Fair Oaks Home

Sac Metro Fire extinguished the blaze in 25 minutes early Sunday, no injuries reported

A fire destroyed a Fair Oaks home Sunday morning, according to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesman Scott Cockrum.

The single-alarm fire was reported at 4:45am Sunday, destroying a house on the 8900 block of Leatham Ave. in Fair Oaks. No injuries were reported.

Cockrum said several 911 calls from neighbors alerted firefighters to the blaze. The house was fully engulfed when the 24 firefighters arrived on the scene.

The fire was extinguished in about 25 minutes, Cockrum said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Cockrum said a number of factors would be considered. Cockrum said the house, although believed to be vacant, still had electricity. The cause of the fire could have been accidental or arson, Cockrum said.

Firefighters’ first priority was to prevent flames from spreading to surrounding homes, Cockrum said.

KCRA reported that neighbors frequently found teenagers throwing parties in the house. Cockrum said that information would be considered in the investigation.
