Two Broncos Selected to All-Metro Squad

Lininger and Vaught played key roles in Bella Vista's 20-9 record and a trip to the playoffs.

Two players on Bella Vista High School’s varsity baseball team have been named to the Sacramento Bee’s All-Metro team.

Broncos senior outfielder Tommy Lininger and senior infielder Dustin Vaught both made the second team.

Bella Vista head coach Greg Olsen said he was so happy to hear some of his players were being acknowledged for their stellar seasons.

“It was an honor to see those guys be honored for their hard work and get recognized by the league and the city,” Olsen said.

Lininger finished the 2010-11 season with a .402 batting average and a .753 slugging percentage. He had 29 RBIs, scored 28 runs and hit six home runs.

Lininger had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Olsen said Lininger really came into his own this season.

“Tommy was an offensive machine for our team. He had an outstanding time. No player worked harder or was more dedicated than Tommy was this season,” he said. “Hard work and dedication really paid off for him with the honor he got by being second team All-Metro.”

Vaught finished his year with a .413 batting average; he scored 27 runs, knocked in 14 runs and had a .554 slugging percentage.

Vaught hit nine doubles and two triples during the 2010-11 season.

Olsen said Vaught stepped up his game offensively this season.

“Dustin was the player of the year in our league, he was a three-year varsity player,” he said. “He had a phenomenal regular season and he had over 100 at-bats without a strikeout. It’s pretty impressive.”

Bella Vista junior pitcher David Dellaserra, along with Del Campo High School’s senior catcher Mikey Nantze and senior Tyler Smith were honorable mentions on the team.

Del Campo junior infielder Hannah Howell was an honorable mention on the All-Metro softball team.

In other news, Olsen was pleased to announce that Vaught and senior pitcher/infielder Ben Brooks have been selected to play in the Sacramento area Optimist baseball game on Saturday at American River College.

“They recognize seniors and usually a school will get one or two players,” he said. “The north plays the south.”
