Wednesday Holiday Affects 4th of July Fireworks Sales
Sales so far have been mixed, and vendors told Fair Oaks Patch the timing of the holiday is a factor.
Safe and sane fireworks stands are plentiful in Fair Oaks and so far 2012 sales have ranged from slow to about average for the Fourth of July holiday.
One factor impacting fireworks sales this year is the holiday's Wednesday date. With the holiday falling in the middle of the week, some local vendors are noticing an impact on sales.
"Last year when Independence Day was on a Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday we sold a ton (of fireworks), but this year it's been slow," said Tony Calub of , whose stand is set up at 4000 San Juan Ave.

Most of the nonprofit groups selling fireworks have sent out flyers throughout the community informing them about their fireworks stands.
“Initially we had our kids hang flyers on people's doors throughout the neighborhood telling them to support our athletic booster club and that always helps boost sales," said P.D. Asp of the Bella Vista High School Boosters Club. Her fireworks stand is set up at 4820 San Juan Ave.

One stand at the Fair Oaks Shopping Square Shopping Center at 8121 Madison Ave. partnered with the surrounding businesses to help with sales.
"Carl's Jr. is offering a free fry (order) with a $20 purchase and we have $15 off $75 sales along with TNT's coupons," said Kathy Garcia of New Life Community Church, who manages the Fair Oaks Shopping Center stand.
Most stands do have repeat customers and the stands with low customer turnout are banking on last-minute shoppers to buy their fireworks before the big holiday celebration.
