Who's Hiring? Pet Lovers, Get Fit, Get Paid

This week’s job hunt is dedicated to Carmichael animal lovers. Focusing on the pet industry, there are quite a few fulfilling positions or better yet, create your own job opportunity doing what you enjoy and love. 

Although there is always a demand for medical veterinarians, dog walking has become a trendier task which, depending on the individual, can transform it into a monetizing opportunity.  Simply think of a creative name for the company, think of what services you want to offer, obtain a business license (recommended), get insurance for yourself (recommended), start marketing (flyers, Facebook, Craigslist, Twitter etc..) and you're off to a great start. 

Besides babysitting (which is also becoming a popular and lucrative job), dog walking/sitting is that one extra service that can be added or perhaps exclusive. But before making any quick decisions, make sure you do your research and get involved with local meet up groups to gain more helpful knowledge. 

Carmichael has a perfect faithful group to get involved with and to meet others who have the same interest and passion for their pets. 

1. TOPDOG (Trekking Our Pooches Dog Owners Group)

This is a group of dog devotees that gather together and enjoy walking in the evening and weekends with their human-friendly dogs and meet with others who enjoy doing the same. 

Meetings: 3 -6 times per week

2. Petco (www.petco.com) is located at 8840 Madison Ave. The company specializes in offering pet products and accessories for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles and other various animals. It also has an adoption center and grooming salon services. Currently, the company has several openings at the store. 

• Position: Operations/Assistant Store Manager
• Duties: Responsible for assisting with operations, payroll, achieving the store’s budgeted sales and other related duties.
• Requirements: retail experience, high school diploma or GED, ability to work weekends, organizational skills, basic customer service, sales experience and genuinely loves to work with animals.

• Duties: Bathing, brushing, trimming, clipping, conditioning; generate business of repeat customer contacts and new clients.  
• Requirements: minimum 1 year grooming experience, high school diploma or GED, ability to lift 50 lbs.
