
The following is a press release from the California Highway Patrol:
On November 27, 2013 at approximately 12:00 p.m., two pedestrians, a 78 year old male and a female approximately 50 years old, were walking eastbound on the shoulder of westbound Winding Way near Montcurve Boulevard.
A green 2004 Ford Taurus driven by a 53 year old male from Fair Oaks was traveling eastbound on Winding Way near Montcurve Boulevard at approximately 35 mph. The Taurus began to veer to the left crossing over the westbound lane of Winding Way and onto the shoulder where the pedestrians were walking.
The female pedestrian, who was walking closest to the street, was struck by the Taurus. The Taurus continued over a curb and down an embankment then struck a tree. The pedestrian was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon her arrival. The male pedestrian was not struck. The driver of the Taurus was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with minor injuries.

It is unknown at the time of this press release, if alcohol and/or drugs are a contributing factor in this collision. The identity of the female pedestrian has not been released pending notification of next of kin. This collision is still under investigation.
