• Extreme Heat in Southern California to Bring Dangerous Temperatures Through Next Week (edhat.com) — Fontana is under a National Weather Service Extreme Heat Watch from Friday, Oct. 2, through at least Wednesday, Oct. 7, with valley highs potentially reaching 108 degrees and warm nights in the 70s. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid midday sun, use air conditioning if possible, and check on vulnerable neighbors as the prolonged heat wave settles over the Inland Empire and nearby coastal areas.
   

• Sacramento man convicted in Southern CA fraud that stole $2 million in cargo (sacbee.com) — A Fontana man was convicted alongside a Sacramento co-defendant in a federal cargo theft scheme that stole about $2 million in appliances and electronics from Southern California warehouses, including sites in Fontana. Prosecutors say they misused legitimate trucking companies to win shipping bids, then diverted the loads, and both now face potential multi-year federal prison sentences at a January 20 hearing.
