FOSTER CITY, CA — Foster City and Recology San Mateo County will offer free curbside coat collection Nov. 9-13 through their Coats for Kids program to help local families stay warm.
Residents with curbside service can place donations in a paper or clear plastic bag labeled "Coats for Kids" at the curb on their regularly scheduled collection day that week, according to an Oct. 21 city announcement.
Despite the program's name, coats in all sizes are needed for both children and adults. Donations should be new or in excellent gently used condition.
Residents without curbside service, those who miss their collection day or anyone who prefers to drop off donations can use collection carts at two Foster City businesses:
Both locations will accept donations during regular business hours through Friday, Nov. 20, giving residents an additional week after curbside collection ends to contribute.
Donated coats will be delivered to local nonprofit agencies for distribution to people in need during the upcoming holiday season, the city said.
