Weekend Police Blotter: Underage Suspects Steal Beer and Later Return to Retrieve Cell Phone

The following information was supplied by the Foster City Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Aug. 19

9:53 a.m., Gull Avenue: A suspicious person was reported at Audubon School. A white male in his 20s with black hair, wearing a black hooded parka and jeans entered the school and asked to use the restrooms. Officers responded but the man was gone upon their arrival.

10:03 a.m., Beach Park Boulevard and Edgewater Boulevard: An e-mail report was received indicating a someone had hit a sign pole with their vehicle and drove away. Officers responded and made an extensive area check, but were unable to locate any damage.

10:08 a.m., Marlin Avenue and Grebe Street: Someone reported an elderly male wearing tan pants and a gray jacket was on a bike looking for recyclables and was nearly hit twice by passing vehicles. Officers responded and located the suspect. They determined he was OK and talked to him about bicycle/road safety.

2:20 p.m., E. Hillsdale Boulevard: Someone reported a Hispanic male and female with a baby was sitting outside the library entrance, soliciting people for money as they entered the library. Officers made contact with the suspects and sent them on their way.

4:32 p.m., E. Hillsale Boulevard: Someone reported that, about 45 minutes before, two suspects had stolen several bottles of alcohol from their store and fled on bikes. Officers responded. Copies of security camera footage are forthcoming.

4:58 p.m., Catamaran: A residential alarm was audibly going off. Officers responded, entered the home and checked the interior, which was empty. The resident responded during that time as well. Determined to be a false alarm.

Saturday, Aug. 20

1:15 a.m., Charter Square on Shell Boulevard: Danny J. Descalzo, a 58-year-old Foster City resident, was arrested for drunk driving and transported to 1st Chance.

1:19 a.m., Highway 101 and Kehoe: Emma G. Corona, a Modesto resident, was cited and released for driving with a suspended license. The vehicle was released to her licensed passenger.

10:02 a.m., Sandpiper Court: A man came to the police department's front counter and reported that someone had used his Discover credit card without his permission and charged approximately $115 between July 26 and Aug. 3. Citibank has agreed to reimburse the charges.

10:46 a.m., E. Hillsdale Boulevard and Seaspray: Gene Burkett, a 48-year-old male, was cited and released for driving with a suspended license.

11:33 a.m., Metro Center Boulevard: A citizen at the Orchard Supply Hardware store reported a white male suspect appeared to be hitting a young female child, then left her in a dark gray SUV in the Orchard Supply parking lot closest to the Starbucks. He then returned to the car and drove away with the child, down Foster City Boulevard. Officers responded and checked the area thoroughly but was unable to locate the subject. An informational report was taken.

11:58 a.m., Haddock: A citizen reported that another citizen had posted excessive garage sale signs on City property. Officers removed the signs and spoke to the resident, advising him/her of the City ordinance.

2:26 p.m., Somerset Lane: Several 911 hangups were received. Officers made contact with a female who advised them of an abated verbal domestic dispute. Officers responded and confirmed the dispute was abated.

3:55 p.m., Foster City Boulevard: Someone reported that a dog had been left unattended in a dark van with all the windows rolled up. Officers responded and made contact with the driver and determined the dog was OK.

4:53 p.m., Ketch Court: Someone reported two juveniles in Ketcher Park were playing with matches. Officers responded and located the juveniles, who were playing with a lighter. No damage was done. Officers contacted their guardians, who came to pick them up.

5:30 p.m., Boothbay Avenue: An anonymous person reported two East Indian adult subjects were smoking marijuana behind the restrooms in Boothbay Park. Officers responded and located the subjects, who were not committing any crime.

9:30 p.m., Port Royal Avenue and Rock Harbor Lane: Officers provided assistance to the Foster City Fire Dept. on a trash fire. An informational report was taken.

10:52 p.m., Triton Drive: Someone called to report two Hispanic suspects who were drunk and annoying other customers at the Pizza Hut. The subjects reportedly stole six bottles of beers and left behind a cell phone. Officers responded, and the subjects returned to the Pizza Hut to retrieve their phone while officers were still on the scene. Juan Estrada, a 20-year-old San Mateo resident, and Vanessa Franco, a 19-year-old San Mateo resident, were cited and released for petty theft and being minors in possession of alcohol.

Sunday, Aug. 21

1:17 a.m., Foster City Boulevard and Bounty: Jessica Avendano, a 27-year-old San Mateo resident, was arrested for drunk driving and transported to 1st Chance.

1:32 a.m., E. Hillsdale Boulevard: Officers provided assistance to the Foster City Fire Dept. when a report was taken that a refridgerator was smoking at the Safeway grocery store.

2:30 a.m., Highway 92 and Chess Drive: Someone reported a male, possibly wearing a red striped shirt, walking onto the freeway. Officers responded but no subject was located.

3:02 a.m., Kehoe and Norton, San Mateo: Arvindra Johan, a 39-year-old San Mateo resident, was arrested on a $20,000 misdemeanor warrant out of Newark. The suspect's vehicle was towed.

11:36 a.m., Metro Center Boulevard: A petty theft report was taken when a woman, who was shopping at the Costco, reported her wallet was stolen out of her purse when she briefly left her cart unattended. The wallet contained $3 in cash and miscellaneous credit cards.

1:48 p.m., E. Hillsdale Boulevard: An anonymous person reported a tree was down on Rainbow Bridge, blocking the bicycle path over the lagoon. Officers searched the areas of Twin Bridges, Rainbow Bridge and Ryan Park and were unable to locate any such hazard.

3:30 p.m., Beach Park Boulevard: A female came to the front counter of the police department and reported that a group of four juveniles had attempted to steal her bicycle approximately 20 minutes earlier, and that a good samaritan had helped her recover the bicycle. The main suspect was around 5'10" and last seen traveling westbound crossing the Bicentennial Bridge. The three other suspects were last seen walking toward Charter Square and described as being between 14-16 years old. One was Asian, one was blond with freckles, and no description was given of the third person. A report was taken.

7:04 p.m., Foster City Boulevard: Someone reported a delivery truck  at the Starbucks was causing a hazard for other drivers in the parking lot. Officers responded and the hazard was abated.
