• Fountain Valley football routs Westminster, closing in on league title (latimes.com subscription) — Fountain Valley High's Barons are one win from at least a share of their first league football title since 2008 after a dominant 42-14 victory over Westminster. Quarterback Isaac Combs led a potent offense while the defense largely shut Westminster down, setting up two favorable remaining league games that could deliver Fountain Valley an outright championship and strong CIF momentum.
• Off-road collision in Johnson Valley claims life of 21-year old rider (newsbreak.com) — A 21-year-old Fountain Valley resident, Sean Sullivan, died after his motorcycle collided with a Polaris RZR during off-roading in Johnson Valley on Saturday. He was airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital and later pronounced dead, and investigators with the California Highway Patrol are still gathering details about how the crash occurred.
• Meet Derek Thomas (canvasrebel.com) — A musician who grew up on the Huntington Beach–Fountain Valley border reflects on how local surf culture, school music classes, and his dad's records shaped a career that's taken him from the Caribbean to San Francisco and Nicaragua. Now based again in Orange County, he's refocusing on music with a new live album recorded in Laguna Beach.
