Anaheim PD Investigates Shooting By Off Duty Los Angeles Police Officer

Two juveniles were arrested after an altercation that led an off duty LAPD officer to fire his weapon, police say.

ANAHEIM, CA — An off duty Los Angeles police officer was reported to have fired his weapon during an altercation with several juveniles in Anaheim on Tuesday, according to police reports. Two of the juveniles were arrested during the investigation that followed, and no one was struck by gunfire, Anaheim Police said.

At just before 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Anaheim police department officers responded to a report of a fight between a man and several boys.

"They learned en route that the man was an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer who had discharged his firearm and was detaining at least one of the juveniles," Sgt. Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim Police Department said. "Upon arrival, officers contacted the off-duty officer who admitted to discharging his firearm during an altercation with at least two individuals," Wyatt said.

No one was struck by the gunfire. Because of the firing of the gun, homicide detectives were summoned to conduct an investigation, Wyatt explained.

"Several juveniles witnessed the incident and were interviewed by detectives," Wyatt said. "The preliminary investigation has resulted in the arrest of two juveniles, one for making criminal threats and battery and the other for assault and battery. The off-duty officer is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and will not be arrested at this time."
