Bomb Squad 'Beeping Eggs' Easter Egg Hunt For Blind OC Kids
Orange County Sheriffs and the Blind Children's Learning Center hosts a creative egg hunt for blind and visually impaired children Friday.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Devices Section partnered with the Blind Children’s Learning Center to host a creative egg hunt for blind and visually impaired children. On Friday, they will do it again this time at the Newport Dunes, from 10 to 11 a.m., according to Orange County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun.
Plastic eggs that beep were tucked away in various locations outside the Santa Ana-based Blind Children’s Learning Center waiting for dozens of children to scoop them up for their baskets.
“Spring egg hunts are a beloved tradition for so many families and we are excited to be able to host a sensory version so our children who are blind can be included in the festivities,” said Carolyn Baker, Director of Development for the Blind Children’s Learning Center at the event in 2017. “This event was a huge hit for our families last year and our students at the Center enjoyed it again.”

Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Devices Section, also known as the Bomb Squad, typically have their guard up when encountering hidden devices beeping near buildings. On Friday, they will usher children along and encouraging them to run toward the sounds.
“The HDS team has a trained ear for anything that beeps or ticks so we know they’ll be great egg hunt partners for the children participating,” said Chris Hays, lieutenant of the HDS said. “We are very grateful to be able to volunteer our time to such a great event.”
