Broken iPhone? Busted Dell? Throw 'Em Out at E-Waste Drive Saturday

Laptop burst into flames? Ditch it this Saturday at the e-waste drive in Fountain Valley.

Sponsored by the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce, the event will collect unwanted electronic items for free Saturday.

The drive runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 16400 Brookhurst Street at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center and Sports Park.

Acceptable household e-waste items include televisions, PC systems, laptops, monitors, home entertainment systems, cell phones, desktop copiers, printers, fax machines, keyboards, DVD and VCR players, audio devices and loose wires (in working condition or not.)

Items not accepted are fluorescent lamps, microwaves, vacuums and cooling units such as refrigerators.

According to organizer, the events aims to help residents properly dispose of their e-waste and help divert waste from landfills. 

According to the foundation, hundreds of millions of retired computers, cell phones, and electronics sit idle or are discarded by Americans every year, eventually contributing to landfill waste. Toxic substances like lead, cadmium, and mercury that are commonly used in these products can contaminate the land, water, and air.
