Daytime Residential Burglaries Escalating, Victim Loses $2,400 in Jewelry

Police are asking citizens to be more aware of unfamiliar people in their neighborhoods during the day and report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.

Residential burglary reported on Sunn Ave., Feb. 22 at 2:44 p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered residence by prying open back window screen, went through the victim’s items and took multiple pieces of jewelry. Before fleeing the residence the suspect(s) placed any moved items back where they belonged without being detected. The neighborhood was searched for witnesses but none were found. Jewelry was valued at $2,383.81. Property loss was valued at $350.

Residential burglary occurred on Palm, Feb. 24, between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s home through a locked kitchen window, removed items, and fled the scene undetected. Value of the loss is estimated at $2,600.

Residential burglary was reported on Santa Maria, Feb. 23 at 12:56 p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered victim’s rear yard, entered the unlocked south sliding door, took the victim’s purse from a table and fled in an unknown direction. Victim was in the shower at the time. Loss valued at $24.

Petty theft was reported at Costco on Newhope St., Feb. 22, at 1:39 p.m. Suspect(s) entered the business using a cutting tool to cut a Samsung tablet from the sales floor and fled undetected in an unknown direction. An email was sent to all Costco’s regarding thefts of Samsung tablets. Value of the loss was $429.

A commercial burglary was reported Feb. 26 at 8:18 a.m. at the Subway on Ellis Ave. Suspects(s) used a type of crowbar to smash the window on the southwest side of the building, entered the business, removed the coin dispenser from the front counter, and fled the scene undetected. The loss of coins and the coin machine is valued at $356 while property damaged is estimated at $200.

Vehicle burglary was reported at Games2U on Mt. Herrmann Cir., Feb. 29, at 5:56 p.m. A person saw the company van parked on the north side of the business locked and secured, but the next day that person saw the passenger’s side key lock removed and several items missing. Suspect(s) pried open the victim’s passenger door and made entry, took the items, and fled the scene in an unknown direction undetected. The missing items were valued at $102 and property damaged was estimated at $150.

Vandalism reportedly occurred at Masuda School between Feb. 17 and Feb. 23, and was reported on Feb. 23 at 9:07 a.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered the school and vandalized three windows of three separate classrooms. Suspect(s) used an etching tool to scratch their monikers of “Tats” and “Ups” into the glass.

Vehicle petty theft was reported at LA Fitness on Talbert Ave., Feb. 28 at 4:57 p.m. Victim left his vehicle unlocked and attended while inside the gym. The next day victim noticed some of his personal property was missing from the vehicle. Value of loss was $416.

Residential burglary reported on Whitney St., Feb. 29 at 3:45 p.m. Suspect(s) cut the screens to three different windows in an unsuccessful attempt to make entry into the home. Nothing inside the home was disturbed. Property damage estimated at $100.

Grand theft was reported on Brookhurst St., Mar. 1 at 4:54 p.m. Victim placed her laptop on the ground, got out of her car and drove away. Victim noticed her laptop missing when she got home and called the security company at her business. A search of the area by the security guard revealed no laptop. No suspect(s) were seen around the parking lot. Value of loss estimated at $1,000.
