A special election will be held Tuesday in Orange County’s First Supervisorial to choose a successor to Janet Nguyen, who was elected to the state Senate.

The candidates are former supervisor and state Sen. Lou Correa, Nguyen’s chief of staff Andrew Do, Garden Grove Councilman Chris Phan, Vietnamese station VNA-TV news anchor Chuyen Van Nguyen, and Lupe Morfin-Moreno, an office specialist with the Orange County Health Care Agency.

The First District includes Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Westminster, the unincorporated Midway City area and portions of Fountain Valley.

Do said he grew up in the district and has gained valuable experience on current issues as Nguyen’s chief of staff. Do said he expects he would take a tougher stance in collective bargaining with county labor than Correa, who has received support from the county’s unions.

The county has received 33,965 vote-by-mail ballots out of 128,000 sent out, Orange County Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley said today.
