Everyone Was A Winner At Fountain Valley 5K Fun Run 2017

Hundreds came out to run the Fountain Valley Community Foundation's 2017 5K Fun Run/Walk! Superhero themed, many dressed for the day.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA — Health and fitness were the word and superhero was the theme of the 5K Fun Run / Walk! through Fountain Valley.

The event was a record success for organizers, held Feb. 5 at Fountain Valley Sports Park on a foggy, Orange County morning.

517 registered runners took to the sidewalk, according to the Fountain Valley Community Foundation.

"100-percent of the registration fees are donated to local non-profits, community and school groups," Rob Frizzelle, the Secretary of the Fountain Valley Community Foundation said. "We will be giving away $16,000 from this run."

Many who came out for the super hero themed event dressed for the occasion, and all received Captain America themed t-shirts for entering the fun run through the park.

Kids raced in the one-mile event, while runners of all ages pounded the pavement in superhero gear, dressed as superheroes or pushing strollers, many with dogs and all wearing huge smiles as the day began.

Sponsors for the event included Snail's Pace Running Shop, Chick-Fil-A Bristol and MacArthur, Level 27 Media, Seeden Photography, Fountain Valley Living, Optic Photo Booth, Party Princess, Edinger Medical Group, Hyundai, Orange Coast Memorial, Fountain Bowl, Health Atlast, Pacific Premier Bank, Farmers Insurance-Melissa Wantanabe Agency, Medicare and Benefits by Elyse and Sherri STacked, Hue Oi, B Nutritious, and Purrfect Auto.

"We congratulate the runners that placed in the 5K, but remember, everyone is a winner in this race! Thank you to all that participated," event organizers stated.

Fountain Valley High School cheerleaders were on hand to give high fives as the runners crossed the finish line, as were a few notable super heroes.

Firefighters and area police also wore their uniforms and turnout gear for the fun run race celebrating the community of Fountain Valley Parks.

After the race, a fair atmosphere and booths were set up for residents to learn more about health and fitness.

Winners were awarded with medals and a photo op with the super heroes.

The 5 k Fun Run winners were:

  • 60-years-old and up: won by Thomas Motter and Carol Proctor
  • 40- to 59-years-old: won by Don Lockwood and Davea Carr
  • 19- to 39-years-old: won by David Mad-Faridi and Stacy McCartney
  • 13- to 18-years-old: won by Kevin Zimmerle and Julia Svartstrom
  • kids 6- to 12-years old: won by Elija Enay and Siera Springer.

Those under six had the opportunity to compete in the kids 1 mile race: won by Brandon Bivens.
