Fountain Valley Officer Hurt in Scuffle with Suspect at Costco
A police officer is recovering after being injured while apprehending a man allegedly trying to return stolen goods at Costco.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA - A Fountain Valley police officer is recovering after being injured Saturday during a struggle with a suspect who allegedly tried to return stolen merchandise for credit at a Fountain Valley Costco.
The officer was called about 12:20 p.m. to the big box store at 17900 Newhope St., according to Fountain Valley police Lt. Matt Sheppard.
He detained the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Chad Michael Mishler of Anaheim, as he was attempting to flee the business, Sheppard said.

"Mishler immediately became combative and attempted to pull away from the officer," Sheppard said. "During the struggle, the officer sustained an injury to his shoulder, incapacitating one of his arms."
A civilian loss prevention officer helped the officer gain control of Mishler, who was booked on suspicion of felony resisting arrest with an injury to a police officer and shoplifting. He also had two outstanding arrest warrants, Sheppard said.

The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, the lieutenant said.
