Just after midnight Tuesday, officers in the area of McFadden Avenue and Newhope Street tried to stop a gray Toyota that had no license plates, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. When the driver refused to pull over, it triggered a chase that ended with the car crashing into the rear bedroom of a home at Newhope and Holly Avenue, Bertagna said.

Fortunately, an 80-year-old woman who was sleeping in the bedroom had gotten up just before the crash and was unhurt, Bertagna said.

The vehicle used in the chase was reported stolen out of Anaheim, Bertagna said.

He said all four suspects had guns and were on probation or parole, and police also recovered methamphetamine and cocaine in the suspect's vehicle.

Police suspect the four have been involved in a series of street robberies in the city, Bertagna said. Police also recovered multiple cell phones in the suspects' vehicle, leading investigators to suspect they were stolen in the robberies, Bertagna said.
