Frugal Family: Deals of the Week

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

School’s out and summer’s here. It’s time to treat yourself to a cold taste of summertime without spending too much of your cold cash. Here’s a list of frozen treats in Fountain Valley that will light up your taste buds without lightening your wallet:

  1. Did you know we have an ice cream shop in Fountain Valley that hand makes its all-natural ice cream on site? It’s Lola’s Ice Cream and Deli, and its top-selling flavors are Lola’s Coffee, Cookie Monster and Fresh Strawberry. A single scoop of Lola's handmade artisan ice cream starts at $1.50. You can get an ice cream shake for $4.50 and a root beer float for $4.65.
  2. Yogurt Passion specializes in gourmet self-serve yogurt and super-fresh toppings. It has one of the largest fresh fruit selections I’ve seen at a yogurt shop, and the yogurt flavors range from the classics like chocolate peanut butter to the exotic, with fresh Lychee. Yogurt is priced at an affordable 35 cents per ounce.
  3. If you prefer your ice cream in flash-frozen form, then Dippin’ Dots is the place for you. With popular flavors like root beer, banana split and cotton candy, prices for a serving of this futuristic treat start at $2.95.
  4. Juice It Up lets you have your cold summer treat in smoothie form. From the non-dairy Lemon Ginseng Sling to the classic Strawberry Wave, Juice It Up smoothies are created to liven up your body, mind, and mood. A 16-ounce smoothie is $3.75, and you get one free natural booster, like ginseng for energy or VitaBoost for a vitamin surge.
  5. Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors of ice cream and so much more. It offers soft serve, ice cream cakes, shakes, sundaes and yogurt. A scoop of this month’s special flavor, Toffee Pecan Crunch, will only cost $2.40.
