Great Escape: Farm Fresh

Enjoy a local Farmers Market.

There’s something about a farmer's market that I find very relaxing. Maybe it’s that they are usually outdoors in the fresh air. Maybe it’s the farm fresh produce, flowers and artisanal products. Strolling through a farmer's market is a great way to spend a few peaceful moments of alone time.

Although we don’t yet have a farmer's market in Fountain Valley, we do have two that are very close. In Huntington Beach at Pier Plaza, there is a farmer's market almost every Friday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m. It features fresh California grown vegetables and fruits, fresh and potted flowers and plants, beef jerky, nuts, artisanal products and more. It’s often held in conjunction with an outdoor shopping fair featuring hand-crafted gifts and merchandise.

At the SoCo Center in Costa Mesa, there is a new farmer's market open every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Still small, the Soco Market offers about 10 to 15 local produce, flower and artisan gourmet treat vendors. It also attracts gourmet food trucks and on a recent Saturday there were five of them with a range of yummy foods to sample.

And while we don’t have a full-featured farmer's market in Fountain Valley, you can always take a few minutes to escape to the Smith Farms produce stand on Ellis Avenue, where local farm fresh produce and nuts are delivered daily.
