Great Escape: Take a Class

Have fun and keep your brain active with interesting local adult ed classes.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break or make your life a little easier—maybe a whole lot easier.

It’s so easy for busy moms and dads to get caught up in all the activities of our daily routines and to stop taking time to learn and experience new things. One easy way to keep your mind fresh and sharp is to take advantage of local classes and expand your knowledge and experience. 

Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach both offer a great selection of adult ed classes that are fun and don’t demand an excessive amount of time or money. There is something to appeal to everyone:

1. Are you crafty? Fountain Valley is offering a four-week Crafters Sampler Course, where students will investigate a variety of artisan crafting. Class begins May 9.

2. Want to build your strength and balance? Try Power Pilates, a challenging workout that combines dance-inspired fitness with resistance train. Starting in Fountain Valley on May 3.

3. Would you like to learn a new physical activity? Try Ice Skating for Adults, offered through Fountain Valley and starting on May 18.

4. Wish you knew CPR? Huntington Beach is offering a four-hour CPR certification course on May 14.

5. Always wanted to learn how to decorate cakes? Take Beginning Cake Decorating and master the techniques of coloring, borders, stars, roses and more. Starting in Huntington Beach on May 24.

6. Does your dog need a class, too? Take the AKC Good Citizen Canine course with your pooch and help him learn basic obedience and commands. In Huntington Beach, beginning on May 10.

These are just a small selection of the fun and varied courses available through local adult ed. Classes vary in price, depending on number of sessions and materials used, but you will find them to be quite affordable.
