O.C. Attempted Rape Suspect Sought, ID'd By DNA: Police

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Police Friday released video footage and publicly identified a suspect being sought in connection with an attempted rape at a Santa Ana bar six months ago.

Gildardo Cortez Martinez, 29, is suspected of pulling the victim down a stairwell to the Copper Door bar at 225 N. Broadway about 3:30 a.m. on May 21, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

The 25-year-old woman was walking north on Broadway when she was grabbed by the man, Bertagna said. Police obtained DNA evidence that allegedly links the suspect to the attack, Bertagna said.

Martinez also has an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence, Bertagna said.

Martinez is 5-foot-8 and weighs about 180 pounds, with a thin build and a medium complexion. He has brown hair and eyes, short black hair and a mustache.

He is believed by law enforcement to be in Orange County area, and anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to call detectives at (714) 900-4174. Orange County Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at (855) TIP- OCCS.
