OC Embezzler to Trade High Life for Prison

Lisa Jeanette Dorman, 43, of Huntington Beach embezzled more than $750,000 from two Orange County busnesses.

A part-time bookkeeper convicted of embezzling more than $750,000 was sentenced Fridy to eight years in prison.

Lisa Jeanette Dorman, 43, of Huntington Beach was spending up to about $20,000 per month — some of it on luxuries, including vacations, fancy cars and breast enhancement surgery, prosecutors said.

Dorman was hired in October 2007 as the part-time bookkeeper for Stratus Development LLC, where she embezzled more than $171,000 over about two years by writing herself extra salary checks and depositing into her own accounts checks made out to fictitious vendors.

In November 2009, Dorman resigned to take a similar job with Southern California Contractors Inc., where she embezzled more than $578,000 over about three years by creating false entries in the company's check ledger to hide extra salary she paid herself and writing more than 300 forged checks paid to fictitious vendors that she deposited into her own accounts.

During the five-year period, Dorman had cosmetic breast-enhancement surgeries, bought a Cadillac Escalade and a Toyota FJ Cruiser, racing motorcycles and a $20,000 dune buggy for her children, prosecutors said. She took several European vacations, including a two-week Italian getaway that cost more than $47,000, according to the District Attorney's Office.
