Orange Coast Memorial Foundation Joins Global #GivingTuesday Movement and Launches Text-To-Give Campaign

Fountain Valley Mayor Steve Nagel Proclaims December 1st as #GivingTuesday, A Day of Giving

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – The Orange Coast Memorial Foundation announced today that it has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide, and it is launching a new “Text-To-Give” campaign. Occurring this year on December 1st, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to work together to improve their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Orange Coast Memorial Foundation develops philanthropic resources that support Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center (OCMMC) in providing excellence in health care within its community. As a nonprofit hospital, OCMMC relies on philanthropy to fund new medical services, technology, equipment, research, and educational programs. To help OCMMC increase awareness about #GivingTuesday, Fountain Valley Mayor Steve Nagel signed a proclamation on November 17th declaring December 1, 2015 as #GivingTuesday, a “Day of Giving.”

In addition to celebrating #GivingTuesday, the Orange Coast Memorial Foundation has announced that it is launching a “Text-To-Give” campaign that will continue through the end of the year. The Foundation is asking people to donate online or text @OCMF to 52014 and they will be prompted with a link to give their gift. Donations will help fund critical medical services and the construction of OCMMC’s new Emergency Pavilion.

“Thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses in our community, we are able to touch the lives of thousands of patients by delivering innovative and compassionate care,” said Orange Coast Memorial CEO Marcia Manker. “We are excited to participate in #GivingTuesday because together we can have a positive impact on not only the city of Fountain Valley, but throughout Orange County by simply putting others’ needs ahead of our own.”

92Y − a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around its core values of community service and giving back − conceptualized #GivingTuesday as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. In 2014, the third year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together 30,000 partners in 68 countries and registered 32.7 million impressions on Twitter, with its eponymous hashtag mentioned 698,600 times. Since 2012, online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has increased more than four-fold, based on findings by Blackbaud and the Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, produced in partnership with the Case Foundation.
