The victim was crossing Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton Wednesday evening when hit, officials said.

FULLERTON, CA – A man crossing a street in Fullerton outside of a crosswalk was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday evening.

Police responded about 8 p.m. to the 400 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue and found a man who appeared to be in his 50s with significant, life- threatening injuries lying in the number one lane of eastbound traffic, according to Sgt. Jon Radus with the Fullerton Police Department.

Fullerton Fire Department paramedics responded and began providing life-saving measures to the victim, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival, Radus said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Buick LaSabre driven by a 64-year-old woman traveling eastbound on Orangethorpe Avenue near Ray Avenue struck the man who was crossing southbound outside of a crosswalk, said Radus.

The woman stayed at the scene and cooperated with police and was not arrested. It does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, Radus said.
