Sycamore Valley Apartments Get Planning Commission OK

BRE Properties' proposal for its the Fountain Valley complex is approved. Commissioners are pleased the owner plans improvements.

The Fountain Valley Planning Commission on Wednesday approved face-lift plans for the Sycamore Valley Apartments.

The owner, BRE, is planning a new leasing and recreation building, four new pool buildings and a remodel of the exterior of the complex.

Planning Commission members were pleased about the upgrades.

"Thank you for doing this in our community," Chairman Ron Walker told BRE Senior Director Frances Oullette.

Oullette said, "We're hoping that people will take more pride [in their homes] as we continue to improve the complex."

The site will be relandscaped; several trees will be removed, and dozens of new ones will be planted. The mansard shake roof will be removed, and the exterior of the buildings will be completely modernized.

The commission was concerned about parking during the remodeling. BRE is considering using a shuttle to get workers to the site.

In other business, the commission:

  • Approved a clock tower telecommunication antenna installation at 9475 Heil Ave.
  • Approved a permit for Crossfit strength and conditioning to operate a facility at 16580 Harbor Blvd.
  • Approved a conditional-use permit for HT Learning Center at 9120 Heil Ave.
  • Approved a plan by Surefire to add a metal container at 18300 Mt. Baldy Circle
  • Approved a plan for Ageless Beauty Center to improve the facade and add 1189 square feet at 17271 Brookhurst St.
