Samurai Sword Wielding Man Tasered in Santa Ana Shopping Center, Police Say

A 29-year-old man went to a Santa Ana shopping center armed with two samurai swords, threatened people and was zapped with a police stun gun, officers said Saturday.

A man later identified as Hung Anh Nguyen was in a parking lot carrying two swords and yelling profanities at about 11:15 p.m. Friday at a shopping center near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and McFadden Avenue, said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Jeff Owens.

Nguyen was reportedly threatening officers and refused to comply with any commands. A Taser was used and he was taken into custody, according to a department statement.

No one was injured and Nguyen was brought to a hospital for psychological evaluation, Owens said.

Nguyen was later booked at the Santa Ana Police Department for possession of illegal swords and assault with a deadly weapon. He was also held on an earlier no-bail narcotics warrant, according to police records.
