Volunteer Joyce Murphy Honored by Girl Scouts

Outstanding Volunteers and Girls Honored at Appreciation Luncheon

Orange County youth and adults were presented with prestigious awards for their accomplishments and their volunteer service to Girl Scouts of Orange County at a luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel on June 7.

Fountain Valley resident Joyce Murphy was presented with the Opening Doors Award, which is given to volunteers who have introduced Girl Scouting to a new area or community. Joyce was previously the Children’s Program Manager at American Family Housing, an organization that provides housing and services to support homeless and low income families. While there, she started Troop 2504. This multi-level troop includes many girls who had never participated in extra-curricular activities before. With Joyce’s encouragement, these girls have a safe and stable troop of Girl Scouts always supporting them.
