FREMONT, CA — One person was slashed with a knife during a carjacking Tuesday evening, Fremont Police say. It was the second carjacking within about 4 hours. Police believe the same man is responsible for both crimes, and have arrested 18-year-old Christopher Zapien of Lathrop. Lathrop is in the Central Valley, between Tracy and Manteca.

The first carjacking happened at 1:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Washington Boulevard. The car was later found unoccupied and returned to the victim by detectives.

Then around 5:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Valero Gas Station on Fremont Boulevard. A suspect had approached a man, "simulated a gun under his shirt and demanded the victim’s keys and wallet," police said in a social media post. "When the victim did not comply, the suspect sliced the victim’s hand with a knife."
