FREMONT, CA — Verizon Wireless rolled out 5G Ultra Wideband and 5G Home Internet in Fremont, the company announced earlier this month.

The rollout brings wireless speeds up to 4 Gbps to Fremont residents, businesses and visitors.

Verizon called it "a catalyst to making everyday interactions such as uninterrupted video calls with loved ones and work colleagues all the way to advanced technology such as state-of-the-art remote surgical procedures, smart city infrastructure, and truly autonomous vehicles possible."

Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband, available to some residents and enterprise customers, was built for industrial and commercial use cases.

“With 5G connectivity, Pony.ai will have better access to reliable coverage and improve real-time communication for our autonomous vehicle testing,” said Chen Fu, Director of Product Management at Pony.ai. “Deployment of 5G smart cells in Fremont will not only help us to improve our user experience, but will also enable new application options, which can be used to advance the development of autonomous vehicles. We are thrilled that the City is continuing to support the demand for increased connectivity from local businesses by streamlining the process wireless providers use to deploy small cells, and we are ready to embrace this future 5G citywide network.”

Verizon's 5G Home Internet is not available everywhere. Check this link to see if you can get it at your home.

If your neighborhood has 5G, here's what the Verizon 5G Home package includes:

  • Max download speeds up to 1 Gbps, with typical download speeds of 300 Mbps.
  • Starts at $50 a month for Verizon customers with a qualifying mobile plan, and $70 a month for customers without a qualifying mobile plan.
  • Work, learn and stream smarter with a free Stream TV device and a Samsung Chromebook 4.
  • Verizon will offer up to $500 to cover early termination fees for customers who leave their current internet provider and switch to 5G Home Internet.

Fremont is one of just 82 cities that have 5G Ultra Wideband available and one of 57 cities that have Verizon’s 5G Home Internet. Fremont zoomed ahead of other cities in the 5G race when the City Council approved a small cells project in January of last year. It allows companies such as Verizon to put small cells on city light poles, instead of restricting them to large cell towers.
