7 Fremont Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

The college-sponsored scholarships were awarded to students at two different Fremont high schools.

FREMONT, CA — Seven Fremont students have been selected for college-sponsored scholarships in the latest round of National Merit Scholarships, announced this week. The students attended American and Mission San Jose high schools in Fremont Unified School District.

The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

"Our district is incredibly proud of our students who work incredibly hard to excel in academics and beyond," said FUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack. "I congratulate each scholarship recipient on this achievement, and acknowledge our district’s outstanding educators who support each of our students to succeed in our schools and in the next chapter of their lives."

Four of the winners have chosen Computer Science or Computer Engineering as their likely career fields, the remaining three reported Environmental Science, Medicine and Chemistry.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will name additional recipients of college-sponsored awards in July.

In April, nine Fremont students were named winners of corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards. In May, 24 students were named as winners of National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.
