Fremont Police Standoff Ends Peacefully

FREMONT, CA — A standoff between Fremont Police and a suspect holed up in an apartment complex ended peacefully around 6 p.m. Thursday, about four hours after it began. No injuries were reported. The suspect was taken into custody.

The standoff happened at the Briarwood Apartments, in the 4200 block of Bay Street.

A Fremont police spokesperson said it began when they received a call about a possible home invasion. Police responded, and ended up in a standoff with the suspect inside an apartment.

Police blocked off the street and kept people back from the apartment complex as a safety precaution.

Bay Street was closed off between Grimmer Boulevard and Chapel Way for several hours.

The suspect has not been identified and possible charges have not yet been announced.

By 6:45 p.m., police had left the area and Bay Street was reopened.
