Alameda County Coronavirus Cases Jump To 45
As the number of coronavirus tests being done by private labs increases, the number of cases is quickly rising.
ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Alameda County has 10 new confirmed cases coronavirus, or COVID-19, according to the Alameda County Public Health Department. As of Friday afternoon, the number of county residents with coronavirus has now reached 45, up from 35 on Thursday.
Unlike neighboring Conta Costa, which reported its first coronavirus-linked death on Friday, there are still no coronavirus deaths in Alameda County.
Santa Clara County reported two new deaths on Friday, bringing the total there to eight, with 196 confirmed cases.

The county is seeing an increase in the number of coronavirus tests being performed by independent labs, as opposed to government labs only, so residents should expect to see case numbers increase, officials say.

A shelter in place order that started in the Bay Area earlier this week has now been expanded to the entire state. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the order Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, BART announced that it is reducing service, as ridership has fallen 90 percent since last month.
