Fremont, Calif – A packed room of celebrants gathered at the Fremont Downtown Event Center to applaud the cinematic achievements of Tri-City area students in grades 6 through 12. More than $1,500 in scholarships were awarded for outstanding video entries in the Alameda County Water District's (ACWD) 7th annual WaterClips Student Video Contest during a Special Board Meeting on April 30.
This year’s awards theme challenged students to create 30-second videos showing how water from ACWD influences, inspires or supports physical health and wellness.
The annual contest drew both individual and team submissions from student creators, each offering a unique perspective on the essential role water plays in their lives, from daily routines to meaningful family traditions.
Through a combination of animation and live action storytelling, students demonstrated impressive skills in video production, editing, screenwriting, and on-camera performance as they competed for scholarships of up to $500.
A diverse panel of judges representing government, media, fitness, and the utility sector reviewed and scored submissions across both Middle School and High School categories.
"ACWD is committed to connecting students and our community to the vital role water plays in everyday health and wellness. This contest was designed to engage students in exploring how reliable, high-quality water supports their well-being and strengthens the communities we serve,” said ACWD Board President Aziz Akbari. “We have been inspired to see how they translated that message into creative stories that highlight how water keeps our communities healthy and thriving."
Award-winning student entries also received a complimentary movie ticket and select local theaters will showcase the winning videos ahead of featured films May 15 through June 4.
