Seeking To Improve Traffic Safety, Fremont Police To Crack Down On Windshield Tint

Police say that although windshield tint may seem minor, it poses "real safety risks."

| Updated

FREMONT, CA — Fremont police will be cracking down on drivers with windshield tint on their cars over the next few weeks in an effort to improve traffic safety, the department announced Thursday.

The announcement comes following a traffic safety enforcement operation on Thursday with other agencies that resulted in officers giving out over 400 citations, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Most citations, 214, were for speeding, police said. But the second most common stops came from windshield and windshield tint violations at 69, police said.

Police say that although windshield tint may seem minor, it poses "real safety risks" on the road by increasing glare and reducing visibility, making it harder to see pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.

"It also increases danger during traffic stops when officers can’t clearly see inside the vehicle," police said. "Keeping your front windshield clear helps protect you, your passengers, and our community."
