FREMONT, CA — Police say they're investigating a bizarre road rage incident in Fremont that ended with one person hitting the other over the head with an otherwise peaceful musical instrument on Monday.
It's unclear what prompted the fight or whether both people knew each other before the incident.
Police say the victim was driving on Mission Boulevard near Oliver Way and Orchard Road when he noticed another driver following closely behind and honking.
Both drivers pulled over, got out of their cars and traded blows before one of them pulled out a ukulele and hit the other over the head with it, police said.
Both drivers left the scene before officers arrived. It's unclear who reported the incident, but police say the case is being investigated as an assault with a deadly weapon.
Police did not say whether the victim was injured or the instrument was damaged.
No arrests were reported as of Friday, when police announced the incident.
