FREMONT, CA — Three people were arrested earlier this month in connection with a mail theft in Fremont, police said.
Police say a witness saw two people steal mail from a residence on Litchfield Circle around 2:30 a.m. before getting in a car and driving off.
The witness gave officers video footage of the incident and a detailed description of the suspects and the vehicle they were in, the Fremont Police Department said.
Officers, within minutes, tracked down the suspect car and pulled the driver over. Inside the car was mail addressed to the residence on Litchfield Circle, police said.
People inside the car matched the description the witness provided, and they were taken into custody in connection with the theft, along with one other person, police said.
The mail, meanwhile, was returned to its rightful owner, police said.
Police used the arrest to highlight the guiding motto of "see something and say something," which encourages people to recognize and report suspicious activity.
"Please report suspicious activities by calling (510) 790-6800, option 3," police said. "You can also send us an anonymous tip by texting "Tip FREMONTPD" followed by your message, to 888-777. In an emergency, please dial 911."
