FREMONT, CA — Fremont police say they arrested a suspect who got stuck in a storm drain while trying to evade officers.

Officers spotted the suspect, who had felony and misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest, near a hardware store on Ice House Ter on Tuesday, July 7, and tried stopping him, according to the Fremont Police Department.

The suspect quickly got on his bike and rode off, police said, adding that officers ran after him but failed to catch up.

The officers set up a perimeter around and searched for him, but couldn't find him, authorities said. That is, until someone called the police department three hours later to tell them their suspect was stuck in a drain in the area near Prune Avenue and Osgood Road.

It's unclear whether the suspect was stuck down there for all three hours. Police say he kept yelling and asking to be let out.

Fire crews responded to the scene and got the suspect out before police arrested him in connection with the warrants. Police did not identify the suspect or say what the warrants were related to.
