FREMONT, CA — Returning for its 34th iteration, the Festival of India Mela & Parade will bring colorful parades, live music, a shopping bazar and delicious Indian cuisine to the streets of Fremont next month.
Festival of India Mela & Parade, presented by Festival of Globe, will take place Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, at 39439 Paseo Padre Parkway from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan said the festival offers a "unique opportunity to experience traditional music, dance performances, authentic cuisine, and various cultural exhibits that highlight the heritage of India."
"It's a time for all residents to come together, celebrate our shared values, and appreciate the multicultural fabric that makes Fremont such a special place," Salwan said.
There will also be over 250 vendor booths during the two-day event, a dance competition and a health and wellness fair. Organizers expect more than 50,000 people at the event.
"Through culture, dance, and art, we plan to be the largest festival that aims to engage global participation, Romesh K. Japra, the founder of the event, said. "Several events that take place during this festival have been recognizing the need for communities to work together for a larger good."
