Officers responded to the scene, but by then, the suspect had run away, according to the Fremont Police Department.

The victim, meanwhile, was taken to a hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not clear.

A warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest, but he evaded law enforcement for a few days, that is, until Friday, July 31, when he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle, police said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment following the crash, where he was met by officers, police said, adding that "charges will be forwarded to the District Attorney's office."
